Q. How is a laser different from a drill?
A. The drill is a very penetrating tool, and the vibration and hole it produces causes discomfort. anesthesia is almost always needed. The laser light works to destroy the decay resulting in no discomfort. Rather than a drilling sound you hear only a gentle tapping.
Q. What else can the laser treat?
A. The laser is effective for soft tissue procedures on the gums, cheeks and tongue, with less pain, less bleeding and faster healing times. If you have a canker sore, ask Dr. Devin Jenkins to get you a "laser bandade".
Q. How can I improve my smile?
A. If you avoid smiling because of chipped, broken, discolored teeth, or unsightly gaps and spaces, we have good news for you. Cosmetic dentistry can make small changes that create dramatic differences in the way you look to others and the way you feel about yourself. Dr. Devin Jenkins offers a full range of cosmetic services, including porcelain veneers and crowns, tooth whitening, tooth-colored fillings, dental implants and Invisalign®, the most comfortable way to straighten your teeth without braces. If you have questions about the services we offer; please call us. We are happy to help!
Q. My gums are bleeding. But I'm not hurting. Do I need to be concerned?
A. We believe strongly in preventive care and want you to understand the importance of good periodontal or gum health. Healthy gums and tissues are the foundation upon which your oral health depends. Proper home care and regular office visits can help prevent and control periodontal disease, lowering your risk of tooth loss. If your gums bleed, swell, or are tender, if you experience persistent bad breath or dry mouth due to medication, please make an appointment as soon as possible. When caught early, treatment is simple, affordable and highly effective.
Q. I have sensitive teeth due to recession. What can be done about it?
A. We all know how important fluoride is for children…You might be surprised to learn that many adults need extra fluoride protection, too. For instance, receding gums expose tooth roots that lack protective enamel and are more vulnerable to decay. Professionally applied fluoride treatments are effective in preventing root decay, and reducing sensitivity. Fluoride can also help alleviate the increased cavities and tooth decay caused by dry mouth. At any age, fluoride is important for your dental well-being.
Q. I need a root canal and heard horrible stories.
A. Dr. Devin Jenkins understands many patients are anxious about root canal therapy. Endodontic therapy usually involves little or no pain. In fact, the pain that caused you to need a root canal is relieved by therapy. During root canal therapy, damaged tissue from inside the tooth is removed eliminating infection and discomfort. Modern root canal therapy is often completed in one visit and saves teeth that might otherwise need to be extracted. Relax..you’re in good hands. Our goal is to help you keep your natural teeth for a lifetime.
Q. Tell me about infection control in your office.
A. Nothing is more important than your safety. That’s why we practice rigorous sterilization procedures that meet or exceed OSHA and the American Dental Association guidelines. You’ll notice our facemasks and gloves and the protective covers on equipment and instruments. We also sterilize instruments in an autoclave and thoroughly disinfect counters and chair surfaces as well as all surfaces touched during procedures. All this, and more, so everything’s fresh, clean, and ready for your visit. Rest assured…we are taking careful precautions for your health and peace of mind.
Q. I am concerned with having too many x-rays taken.
A. Dr. Devin Jenkins is committed to providing each of our patients with the finest possible care, gently comfortably and safely. He prescribes radiographs for diagnostic reasons and clinical necessity only. We use the latest advancement in x-ray technology…digital radiography. Our system has many advantages…the x-rays are immediately available, they are very clear, and can be enlarged on the computer screen. Best of all, radiation exposure is drastically reduced as much as ninety percent less, making x-rays safer for you. We enjoy making a difference for our patients!
Q. I am terrified of going to the dentist.
A. Because we understand that each patient has a different level of sensitivity, we offer Nitrous Oxide, and oral pre-medication to help you through your appointment. We strive to combine the best modern dentistry with the finest personalized service. Relax during your treatment with Video Glasses to watch your favorite movie, stereo headphones for soothing sounds, and enjoy a refreshing warm face towel at the end of your appointment.
